York College of PA to celebrate inauguration of Dr. Thomas Burns on April 13; inaugural concert to be held on April 12

York College of Pennsylvania will celebrate the inauguration of its fifth president, Dr. Thomas D. Burnsat 2 p.m., April 13, in the Waldner Performing Arts Center. The Inauguration Ceremony will feature greetings to the President from students, faculty, alumni, and the community, represented by Rep. Carol Hill-Evans and Rep. Seth Grove, a 2002 graduate of York College. Former Provost at Belmont University in Nashville, Burns will be introduced by Dr. Bob Fisher, President Emeritus of Belmont. A number of visiting delegates from other colleges and universities will attend the Inauguration Ceremony. The public is invited. 

In addition, the Boustead Inaugural Concert featuring the Jupiter Quartet will begin at 7:30 p.m., April 12, in the Waldner Performing Arts Center. The concert will feature a collaboration with York College faculty pianist Kenneth Osowski. The event is open to the public free of charge.

The Jupiter String Quartet, internationally acclaimed winners of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and the Banff International String Quartet Competition, are known for their “compelling” performances (BBC Music Magazine). They will perform a program that spans over a century and highlights a range of musical styles. The concert's first half will include excerpts from At the Octoroon Balls, String Quartet No. 1 by Wynton Marsalis (1995), and Su Lian Tan’s Life in Wayang (2002). Osowski will join the quartet in the second half for a performance of Antonin Dvorak's Piano Quintet No. 2 in A Major, Op. 81 (1887).
