Academic Coaching

Make an appointment with an Academic Coach to learn how you can create strategies to successfully navigate your academic and personal success. Look at how you are spending your time, discuss what your priorities are, and work to master effective study habits. During a consultation, create a plan and then stay in touch with your Coach for support in these areas:

  • Time management - develop a master schedule to have time for school, sleep, and me time
  • Study strategies - learn a variety of study strategies for each course
  • Note-taking - turn your notes into critical thinking study materials
  • Test anxiety - be adequately prepared to avoid anxiety
  • Test-taking strategies - prepare for exams based on test format
  • Reading comprehension strategies - practice understanding and retaining information
  • Textbook reading - use your textbook strategically

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much does academic coaching cost?

Nothing! Academic coaching is included as part of your tuition.

  • When is the best time to meet with a coach?

As soon as possible! Consider meeting with a coach to plan out your semester. Definitely schedule a session as soon as possible when you are feeling overwhelmed and/or struggling in a course.

  • How often can I receive coaching?

Meet with coaches as needed—weekly, biweekly, a few times a semester, or just one time to get support with a current issue. Coaching is determined by you and your needs.

  • Where do I go for Academic Coaching?

Academic Coaches are located in the Academic Success Center, which is in Humanities Room 1 in the lower-level of the Humanities building. Coaches are also available to meet with students via Zoom.

  • Do I have to make an appointment?

Because of high demand, coaching sessions are by appointment on the Spartan Success Network under the Academic Coaching service. Drop in sessions are available if coaches have openings, but we highly encourage students to make an appointment.

  • What should I bring to a coaching session?

Laptop, textbooks, notes, syllabi, planner, and/or any tools you use to be successful.

  • I would like to meet with an academic coach, but the schedule is currently full. What should I do?

Please add your name to the waiting list on Spartan Learning Services or email academiccoach@ycp.edu.
