Career-Oriented Mathematics Tracks

  • Actuarial

    Actuarial

    The mathematics major program affords 15 credits of free electives that may be used to take one of the following career-oriented tracks.

    The Actuarial Track prepares you for one Society of Actuaries (SOA) actuarial exam, probability (P), along with business background courses. 

    Courses:

    • ACC 220 Financial Accounting 3 credit hours
    • ECO 200 Principles of Economics (Macro) 3 credit hours
    • ECO 201 Principles of Economics (Micro) 3 credit hours
    • FIN 300 Managerial Finance I 3 credit hours
    • MAT 350 Probability and Statistics 3 credit hours
  • Computational

    Computational

    The mathematics major program affords 15 credits of free electives that may be used to take one of the following career-oriented tracks.

    The Computational Track with a minor in Computer Science prepares you for an entry-level programmer position.

    Courses:

    • CS 201 Fundamentals of Computer Science II 3 credit hours
    • CS 360 Analysis of Algorithms 3 credit hours
    • MAT 391 Cryptology 3 credit hours
    • MAT 470 Numerical Analysis 3 credit hours

    One course from the following:

    • CS 320 Software Engineering and Design 3 credit hours OR
    • CS 340 Programming Language Design 3 credit hours OR
    • CS 370 Computer Graphics Programming I 3 credit hours
  • Government

    Government

    The mathematics major program affords 15 credits of free electives that may be used to take one of the following career-oriented tracks.

    The Government Track prepares you for a position at the CIA, FBI or NSA.

    Pure Math/Graduate School

    The mathematics major program affords 15 credits of free electives that may be used to take one of the following career-oriented tracks.

    The Pure Math/Graduate School Track prepares you for the first year study in graduate mathematics for graduate-level research.
