Requesting Academic Accommodations

  • Step 1: Submit an Accommodation Request Application

If you would like to begin the process of requesting accommodations, you must first fill out the Student Accessibility Services Accommodation Request Application through our management system, AIM.

You will self-disclose all information related to your disability and conditions for which you are requesting accommodations. All information and supporting documentation submitted during the application process is kept confidential in the Student Accessibility Services office.

  • Step 2: Provide Documentation

You will submit all documentation you would like reviewed and considered in relation to your disability and conditions. Documentation can be uploaded directly into our AIM system during the application process.

Please see the Documentation Guidelines page for further information about documentation that may be helpful in determining reasonable accommodations.

  • Step 3: Meet with Student Accessibility Services

Once you have completed the Student Accessibility Accommodation Request Application and submitted documentation, you will receive an email through AIM to schedule an intake meeting with staff from Student Accessibility Services. This meeting is an individualized and interactive process to determine your reasonable accommodations.

  • Don't Forget! — Implement Your Accommodations Each Semester

You must request accommodations through AIM at the start of each semester in order for them to go into effect. You are responsible for implementing and discussing your academic accommodations with your professors.

Once you have made a request at the beginning of the semester, your professors will automatically be notified by the AIM system. Previous accommodation memos will no longer be accepted, only accommodations sent directly to the professor through AIM are valid.

We recommend completing this process as soon as possible each semester to ensure that your accommodations are in place when you need them. Accommodations are not retroactive; they must be requested through AIM and you must discuss them with your professor in order to be put into effect.

How to Request Accommodations - A Quick Guide for Students

    1. Request accommodations for each course at the start of each semester.

At the beginning of each semester, you will log into AIM and request the accommodations that you are eligible for and want to use for each course. You can only use accommodations that have been approved for you through Student Accessibility Services.

    2. Accommodation memos will be sent to professors.

Once you have requested accommodations for a course through AIM, an individualized accommodation memo will automatically be sent to your professor for that course.

    3. Set up a meeting with your professor.

You are responsible for arranging a time to meet with your professors to discuss how your individual accommodations will be implemented in each of your courses.

Meeting with your professor to discuss your accommodations and needs is an essential step and you may not be able to use your accommodation in a course until you complete this meeting. Students are not required to disclose any diagnosis or disability-specific information. Discussions are designed to communicate and discuss a student's accommodations, information about specific learning needs, areas where a professor can provide support, and how accommodations may need to be facilitated within coursework fundamentals.

If there are questions about a student's accommodations or how to facilitate them within a course, faculty should reach out to Student Accessibility Services at sas@ycp.edu or 717.815.1717.
