Pawan Madhogarhia, PhD
Biography
Dr. Pawan Madhogarhia currently serves as the chair of the Department of Accounting, Finance and Business Analytics at York College of Pennsylvania. As the director of NASDAQ Trading Lab at York College Dr. Madhogarhia studies the behavior of financial markets in a laboratory setting. He is the architect and faculty advisor of the Student Managed Fund at York College where he advises students who manage an equity portfolio with real money. As an Associate Professor of Finance, he teaches finance related courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs in traditional as well as online environment. Prior to joining York College, he has taught at Pennsylvania State University, and Louisiana Tech University. He was a lecturer at Mississippi State University where he earned his Ph. D. in Finance and Master of Sciences in Business Administration. He is a CFA® charterholder from the CFA Institute. He earned Bachelor of Commerce with Honors from St. Xavier’s College, Calcutta, India. Dr. Madhogarhia’s research interests include valuation, asset allocation, international finance, trading strategies, market volatility, earnings management, behavioral finance, value investing, and financial crises. Dr. Madhogarhia specializes in policy issues surrounding the Financial Crisis. He is also actively working on techniques to enhance retirement portfolio returns through strategic asset allocation. He is actively interested in promoting financial literacy and is working on a personal finance book. Dr. Madhogarhia believes in experiential learning and employs simulation and game-based learning. He is looking for ways to develop new pedagogical methods to enrich experiential learning in the areas of finance, accounting and economics through high impact practices. Dr. Madhogarhia has mentored students for different competitions such as the CFA Research Challenge, the CSBS case study competition and the Southeastern Hedge Fund Competition. His dissertation was one of only 50 doctoral dissertations selected worldwide for the 2004 FMA Doctoral Dissertation Seminar. He is the recipient of the 2020 Presidential Award for Teaching and Mentoring Excellence.
