Going Green: YCP Celebrates 2022 Sustainability Awareness Campaign

It’s no secret that green is our favorite color here at York College of Pennsylvania. From our sports teams’ jerseys to the college logo to Ol’ Spart (AKA the big green rock in the middle of campus) — it’s our thing. While the color has long been an iconic part of the YCP identity, our community has recently embraced another aspect of “going green” with a focus on the environment and sustainability. This spring, we are celebrating a number of climate-friendly initiatives through the 2022 Sustainability Awareness Campaign, a series of events happening from April 18 - 29.

The Sustainability Awareness Campaign is a cross-campus effort, spearheaded by the President’s Task Force for Campus Sustainability. The Task Force was established by President Pamela Gunter-Smith in December 2019 to support climate leadership and related activities at York College. This year’s Sustainability Awareness events reflect opportunities for every Spartan to get involved, with offerings including bee hotel installations, wild flower “bombs,” student research presentations, a guest lecture on geohumanities, Earth Day BINGO, herb garden planting, and much more.
