York Community Art Scholars Exhibition

Engaging the community through the arts.

York College of Pennsylvania’s annual York Community Art Scholars Exhibition (YCASE) celebrates the art produced by area high school students and provides promising young artists from York area schools with opportunities for advanced education, a collegial space for honing artistic skills, and the chance to work with local leaders to advance the cultural offerings of York.

Each year, local high school artists from throughout York County participate in the YCASE programs, including the downtown Art Walk, Finalist Exhibition, and exclusive workshops. Participating student artists are eligible for cash awards, gift certificates to Downtown York arts venues, and one $20,000 DelliCarpini Community Art Scholarship to study an arts-related field at York College of Pennsylvania.

Each participating high school exhibits their student artists’ work at art galleries and other shops in the Downtown York arts districts. Families from throughout York County engage in guided and independent tours of the exhibitions, celebrating the high school student artists and learning a bit about York City along the way. In total, these three-day pop-up exhibitions include 400+ pieces of high school art.

Following a careful jurying process by the York College of Pennsylvania Fine Art and Graphic Design faculty, artwork from the YCASE Art Walk is hand-selected to be included in the YCASE Finalist Exhibition. Each of the 100+ pieces of work selected for the Finalist Exhibition is eligible for awards in the following categories: drawing, graphic design, painting, photography, and “other”.

Senior students whose work is selected for the YCASE Finalist Exhibition at any point during their high school career are also eligible to apply for one $20,000 DelliCarpini Community Art Scholarship to study an arts-related field at York College of Pennsylvania. The application process begins early November with a deadline in mid-February.

  • Community Art Scholarship

    Community Art Scholarship

Each year, one YCASE participant will be selected to receive the DelliCarpini Community Art Scholarship. Established in 2016 through a generous gift by donor Mary Lou Frick, the DelliCarpini Community Art Scholarship supports an incoming first-year student with plans to concentrate their studies in an arts-related discipline at York College of Pennsylvania. The fund provides a $20,000 scholarship ($5,000 per year, assuming satisfactory progress in academics and community engagement activities) to one student annually. The recipient will be a full-time student enrolled at York College of Pennsylvania (at least 12 credit hours per term) studying in an arts-related program. Eligible applicants must have been selected for and participated in the YCASE Finalists Exhibition while in high school (either the current year or in previous years). The Community Art Scholar will be expected to work with the Arts program and leadership at Marketview Arts in supporting York College's role in the cultural community.

Students interested in applying for the DelliCarpini Community Art Scholarship must apply at https://york.slideroom.com beginning in early November. Applications are due no later than Friday, February 14, 2020. Note that the selection process, which takes place each spring, may also include a telephone and/or in-person interview. Applicants will also have had to complete an application for admission to York College of Pennsylvania in order to be eligible to receive the scholarship.
