Getting Around Campus
York College welcomes members of the campus community who use various modes of transportation while traveling around campus. To help ensure a safe, accessible, and enjoyable environment for everyone, all users are expected to operate these devices responsibly, be considerate of pedestrians and others, and follow College policies and applicable Pennsylvania laws. The information below provides guidelines for bicycle use and registration, skateboards and skates, and electric vehicle charging stations on campus.
It is recommended that operators wear the appropriate manufacturer-suggested safety equipment while using the equipment on campus.
Bicycle and Recreational Device Regulations
Bicycles - The use of bicycles on College roadways is subject to the same policies and laws regarding the operation of a motorized vehicle under the Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Code (Title 75).
All bicycles are required to be registered with Campus Safety. Faculty, staff, and students will be provided with a decal (at no charge) which must be affixed to the bicycle. Unregistered bicycles found on campus are subject to being seized by Campus Safety.
Any bicycles unclaimed after three months will be considered to be abandoned and will be destroyed or donated.
Bicycles are to be parked in bike racks only. Fastening bicycles to trees, signs, or any other objects is prohibited and may be removed.
Anyone operating a bicycle contrary to the Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Code or in a negligent manner may be issued a traffic citation from Campus Safety. Any offense can result in a judicial hearing if the circumstances of the case warrant.
Skates and skateboards may not be operated on campus roadways at any time.
Skateboards, skates, or stunt bikes may only be used on campus sidewalks between the hours of 5 p.m. and 7 a.m. as long as their use does not interfere with or endanger pedestrian traffic and/or property. Anyone found in violation of the skateboard or skating policy may receive a code of conduct citation which will result in a referral to the Office of Student Conduct.
All individuals operating bicycles, skates, and skateboards on campus are expected to use the equipment in a manner which is appropriate and considerate of others.
Hoverboards are not permitted in any campus buildings, including residence halls, and their use on campus roadways, sidewalks, parking lots and fields is prohibited.
The term "hoverboard" includes, but is not limited to:
- Self-balancing scooters
- Battery-operated scooters
- Hands-free Segways
- Electric-powered skateboards
Electric Vehicle Stations
York College provides Level 2 charging stations to support our students, faculty, staff, and guests.
- Location: Directly behind the Willman Business Center.
- Capacity: Two stations with a total of four charging plugs.
- Permit Requirement: All vehicles using EV stations must be properly permitted to park on campus. Visitors must obtain a pass through their host or the Campus Information Center (CIC).
- Model: SemaConnect (Blink) Series 7, Level 2 stations.
- Compatibility: Equipped with an SAE J1772 connector, compatible with all EVs.
- Tesla Owners: Please ensure you have your J1772 adapter available to use these stations.
Access and payments are managed via the SemaConnect/Blink app (available on iOS and Google Play).
- Download & Register: Create an account in the app.
- Locate Station: Select "York College of Pennsylvania - Willman Business Center."
- Request Access: Select the link in the app to request permission to use this location.
- Note: Please allow 24 business hours for access review.
To ensure equitable access during peak hours, pricing scales are based on the duration of your session. While there is a two-hour suggested limit, you will not be ticketed as long as the vehicle is actively charging.
Peak Hours Pricing (Monday–Sunday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.)
- Hours 1–2: $1.50 per hour
- Hour 3: $3.00 per hour
- Hour 4: $4.00 per hour
- Hours 5–10: $5.00 per hour
Off-Peak Pricing (Outside 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.)
- Flat Rate: $1.50 per hour (no escalation).
Why do I have to register?
As a private campus, we want to manage who has access to our stations so we can allow the most access to our students, staff, faculty, and guests.
Why is there a fee?
The modest fee offsets energy and maintenance costs while preventing misuse and ensuring equitable access.
