York College Center for Community Engagement Opens Program Series with ‘The Glass Ceiling’ Exhibition on Aug. 26

YORK, Pa. – “The Glass Ceiling,” an exhibition curated by local artist Ophelia Chambliss, will open at York College’s Center for Community Engagement (CCE) on Aug. 26 – Women’s Equality Day – and kick off the CCE’s 2021-22 program series, Understanding Gender.

“The Glass Ceiling” exhibition is a series of paintings, stories, testimonials, and spoken and written word pieces by women that addresses the issues of realizing, reaching, and breaking the glass ceiling to success in their careers and personal lives. Contributing artists are Chambliss, Jeannine Dabb (21-22 York College Appell Arts Fellow), Ellen Engdahl Ehlenbeck, Bonnie Gloris, Lexus Gore (former Appell Arts Fellow), Cheryl Handy, Kristin Kest, Rita Whitney King (former Appell Arts Fellow), Mary Moores, Carol Oldenburg, Jasmine Perfect, Ivy Rodgers, and Krissy Whiski.

The opening celebration will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Aug. 26, in the Center for Community Engagement, 59 E. Market St., York. Chambliss and York College President Pamela Gunter-Smith will offer brief remarks at 6:45 p.m. The exhibition runs through May 31, 2022. The opening and exhibition are free. Face masks are required, per York College policy.
