York College senior thrower Andrew Mott made history on Saturday at the 2024 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Mott finished seventh in the shot put as he set a new school record of 16.91 meters. That seventh place finish earned him a first-team All-American finish. The record throw came on his third attempt. Four of his five attempts during the championships were over the 16-meter mark.

The new record came just one week after he set the mark last weekend at the All-Atlantic Regional Track and Field Conference Indoor Championships at Nazareth College.

Mott is York's first thrower to qualify for the indoor national championships and also the first to earn All-American honors.

Spartan Head Coach Stephen LoBianco appreciates how Mott finished his senior indoor season.

"For Andrew to end his senior year of indoor with an All-American honor, a PR, and another school record is perfect," said LoBianco. "Tony Nelo (Spartan throws coach) has done a great job with Andrew this season and really prepared him to compete at this level."

The All-American honor caps a great indoor year for the senior. He won the regional title last week after he earned the gold at the MAC Indoor Championships on February 24. He won the shot at the Franklin and Marshall Diplomat Open on December 8. He broke his own school shot record on January 14 at Kaye and JJ Smith Invitational as he won the shot with a toss of 16.16 meters. He closed out the regular season with a second-place finish at the Blue and White Invitational at Franklin and Marshall on February 9 leading up to his performance at the conference and regional championships.

Mott was an outdoor qualifier in the spring of 2023. He finished 17th last spring, a mark that he hopes to improve on during the 2024 championships. Mott enters the spring season as the defending Middle Atlantic Conference Outdoor and the AARTFC champion in the shot put.

Mott and the Spartans open their outdoor season on March 27 at home in the York College Twilight Meet. The action kicks off at 2:30 pm from the Grumbacher Outdoor Athletic Complex.
