York College of PA Introduces Degree Planner Technology to Support Student Advising

York College has introduced a new tool that is designed to help students stay on track with their curriculum and graduate in a timely manner.

Degree Planner (DP) which is a feature of the Spartan Success Network, is an interactive, personalized tool that complements the planning students do with their academic advisors, including course selection and semester sequencing.

“Students are in the driver’s seat when it comes to fulfilling their degree requirements, and we are encouraging them to think of the DP like a GPS for their journey toward graduation,” said Josh Landau, associate provost for student success. The DP prompts students to input their destination (their degree), it creates an individualized path for them, gives them feedback on their progress, and reroutes them when and if necessary.

Importantly, the DP is not intended to replace the relationship students have with their academic advisor. Rather, the DP is a tool shared by students and academic advisors for creating and managing academic plans, monitoring progress toward graduation, and facilitating more productive advising meetings.
