The invasion of Ukraine by Russia has created a refugee crisis in Poland, which has so far taken in more than 377,000 Ukrainian refugees, according to the United Nations.

York College has a partnership with a university in Poland, the State University of Applied Sciences in Włocławek, which was created by Klaudia Ćwiękała-Lewis, Ph.D., of the Stabler Department of Nursing. The partner university has asked York College and others to help them by buying relief items from Amazon. These items will be sent directly to the university, which will distribute them to the Ukrainian refugees.

Assistant Professor of Nursing Lewis, working with students in her community nursing class, has established a way to support the refugees. She has set up an Amazon gift registry account in her name that anyone can use to purchase items to be sent to the State University of Applied Sciences in Włocławek. These items will be sent to Poland but charged to an individual’s account. Contact Lewis at klewis18@ycp.edu for instructions.

Lewis’ reason for offering this opportunity to help others? "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you," she said.
