Dr. Klaudia J. Ćwiękała-Lewis Assumes Role as the New Chair of the Nursing Department

York College of Pennsylvania is pleased to announce that Dr. Klaudia J. Ćwiękała-Lewis, Ph.D., R.N., PHNA-BC, Associate Professor of Nursing, has assumed the role of the new Chair of the Stabler Department of Nursing.
Having been with York College since August 2017, she brings a deep professional passion for community and public health nursing to the position as well as expertise spanning multiple healthcare settings.
Dr. Lewis earned her Ph.D. in Nursing with a minor in Educational Technology from the University of Arizona and holds an MSN in Leadership in Health System Management from Drexel University and a BSN from Cedar Crest College. She was also certified as an Advanced Practice Public Health Nurse in 2016, and has taught undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral nursing courses in communication, public health, and nursing informatics.
"It is my pleasure to welcome Dr. Klaudia Lewis as the new leader overseeing our Nursing programs,” said Dr. Emmanuel B John, Dean of the Dr. Donald E. and Lois J. Myers School of Nursing and Health Professions. “As Chair of the Stabler Department of Nursing, Lewis brings to the position significant knowledge, skills, and expertise severally as a Nurse Educator, a Nurse Administrator, scholarship, and practice in the fields of community and global health, amongst several other certifications and proficiencies. She is visionary, forward-looking, and embraces changes needed to reposition our nursing programs for higher performance, as well as serve on the leadership of the Myers School. I look forward to working with Dr. Lewis."
Dr. Lewis began her nursing career in neuroscience and later practiced in MICU and SICU. For ten years, she served as a member of the FEMA Disaster Management Assistant Team (DMAT) for the Department of Human and Health Services, and an American Red Cross volunteer for over twelve years, including disaster response work and service as a regional nurse leader. She also held corporate leadership positions, which have strengthened her skills in organizational leadership, strategic planning, and team development.
Since joining York College, Dr. Lewis has created global learning experiences for students by incorporating Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) and study-abroad opportunities into the nursing curriculum. Additionally, she has served on numerous internal and external committees and is enthusiastic about supporting students as they work toward achieving their academic and professional goals.
“Healthcare is currently facing significant challenges, and there is an urgent need for new nurses and advanced nursing leaders to guide the profession through ongoing change,” Dr. Lewis said. “The YCP Nursing Program has a long and respected history in our community. Our graduates are highly sought after by employers, and our outcomes consistently reflect the strength of the program.”
