Stress Management, Mindfulness, and More: YCP Mental Health Awareness Week (May 1-5)

April 19, 2023
Cartoon of 4 people watering a mind.

Mental Health Awareness Week is coming up, and York College is making strides to promote wellness across campus. This year, events are being held from May 1–5 to promote wellbeing for students and staff. The week is sponsored by the School of Behavioral Sciences and Education, Student Development and Campus Life, CAB, and Student Senate to share healthy habits and coping skills with students.

Each year, students are facing new challenges, whether they’re adjusting to college, helping their family and going to school, or working full time. Balancing responsibilities as a student and as a sibling, caretaker, parent, partner, or employee is a lot on anyone, and can affect mental health. One in five U.S. adults experience mental illness each year, and York College’s Counseling Services wants to help students navigate their mental health by addressing their concerns in one-on-one appointments, couples therapy, or group therapy. Campus departments have planned different events for the week of May 1-5 so students have an opportunity to get involved with activities that will benefit their well-being through mindfulness moments, fitness classes, therapy dogs, crafts, and more!
