YORK, Pa. – York College of Pennsylvania and the County of York have entered into a new educational partnership designed to expand access to higher education for county employees and their dependents by offering them guaranteed undergraduate admission, scholarships, and graduate tuition discounts.

The agreement establishes significant educational pathways for benefits-eligible York County employees and their qualifying dependents, with a goal of investing in the professional and personal growth of those serving the York County community.

The York County Board of Commissioners approved the agreement with York College on Wednesday.

“We believe in investing in our people, the hardworking county employees who are committed to our mission of building a better York County,” said York County President Commissioner Julie Wheeler. “So, it’s fitting that, during National County Government Month, we announce this partnership with York College to recognize and continue to invest in our more than 2,200 valued team members.”

Under the agreement, York College will guarantee full-time undergraduate admission to eligible employees and dependents who meet specific academic requirements. Admitted students will be awarded a minimum academic scholarship of $10,000 annually, totaling up to $40,000 over four years. Additionally, students who visit the York College campus by March 1 of their high school senior year are eligible for an additional $1,000 grant for their first year of enrollment.

In addition to undergraduate benefits, the partnership includes tuition discounts for graduate-level studies:

  • Engaged Online Tuition Discount: 15% discount for graduate programs within the School of Behavioral Sciences and Education, the Graham School of Business, the School of the Arts, Communication, and Global Studies, and the Doctorate of Education Program.
  • Asynchronous Online Tuition Discount: A "Partner Rate" discount of approximately 5% is available for programs within the Dr. Donald E. and Lois J. Myers School of Nursing and Health Professions.

“Partnerships like this reflect York College’s mission to serve our community by expanding access to high-quality education,” said Thomas Burn, Ph.D., York College President. “By collaborating with York County, the College continues to create meaningful pathways for professionals and their families to advance their education while supporting the vital workforce needs of the region.”

The agreement builds on recent joint efforts between York College and the County of York to build educational pathways and increase access to professional development opportunities for county government employees.
