A York College of Pennsylvania dean has begun a podcast series to talk about how the liberal arts prepare students to pivot to new careers, adventures, and possibilities.

Dr. Andrew Barnes, who joined York College this year as inaugural dean of the School of the Arts, Communication and Global Studies, collaborated with Jeff Schiffman, station manager of the College’s radio station WVYC, to produce the series – Prepare to Pivot.

The podcast is introduced by Schiffman as an opportunity for Dr. Barnes to “talk with leaders in the College, YCP alums, and members of the York community about the importance of preparing students to build careers where essential skills like critical and creative thinking, effective communications, and analytical reasoning make all the difference.”

Dr. Barnes’ first interview with Brian Hazlett, Vice President for Enrollment Management at York College, focuses on how the liberal arts benefit STEM majors, including those studying education and other preprofessional majors.

"More than ever, the liberal arts are essential for students looking to build careers–not just get
jobs–in a working world that is changing rapidly,” said Barnes. “In these podcasts, I talk with
members of our communities who understand how a strong foundation in the liberal arts gives
students real advantages when they go out on the job market.”
