Dillon Samuelson

Appell Arts Fellow, 2014–2015

Dillon Samuelson is a painter and illustrator who currently lives and works in York, Pennsylvania, United States. He graduated from the Fine Art program at York College of Pennsylvania in 2014, and the following year was awarded the third annual Appell Arts Fellowship at Marketview Arts. He has also completed residencies with the Vermont Studio Center and Springboard for the Arts, and his work has been shown in exhibitions across the US. His art is in private collections throughout the US, Europe, and Australia, and his award-winning illustrations have appeared in books and comics, accompanying the writing of authors such as Ted Kelsey and Erik Arneson.

  • What things did you accomplish as an Appell Fellow of which you are most proud?

    I built a substantial body of work, made lasting connections within the local arts community, and found I was able to self-motivate and consistently make artwork when I'm the only one holding myself accountable.

  • If you were talking to someone considering applying to be an Appell Fellow, what would you say to them?

    Go for it: no where else will you find this good of an opportunity with this small of an applicant pool.
