The Arthur J. Glatfelter Institute for Public Policy
The Arthur J. Glatfelter Institute for Public Policy is a joint program of York College’s Department of History and Political Science and its Center for Community Engagement (CCE). The student-staffed, faculty-led policy institute will allow students to engage in the policymaking process by providing bipartisan research to legislators at the City, County, and State levels of government. Bringing together the intellectual capital of an institution of higher education with the practical experience of local legislators, policy experts, and practitioners, the Glatfelter Institute will become a focal point for advancing the knowledge base of our community, and for educating tomorrow’s policy experts and political leaders.
The Institute will support our community and our college in a number of ways:
- Creating an informed populace by providing— an objective, understandable, and usable form—key data points that can inform deliberations on issues of concern for citizens of our county and state. This information will also be provided to local and state legislators, as well as appropriate government and non-governmental agencies.
- Bringing to York College a public policy professional to work with experts at the College on projects that advance shared research agendas.
- Advancing York College students’ skills in public policy research by offering advanced classes that combine the study of cutting-edge methodologies with experiential learning.
