Nate Gibboney Named New Spartan Men's Soccer Coach

York College Assistant Dean for Athletics and Recreation Paul Saikia is proud to announce that Nate Gibboney has been named the Spartans new men's soccer coach. He will be the eighth coach in the 56 years of the Spartan program.

Gibboney comes to York after a highly successful 11-year run as head coach at Lycoming College. Gibboney owned a record of 128-49-31 during his tenure as head coach of the Warriors.
Saikia is happy to have Gibboney on board.

He comes to us with a complete grasp of our recruiting landscape, experience within our conference, a proven track record of success--both on and off the field, and a vision of excellence. Gibboney's Warrior teams earned three MAC Commonwealth Championships, appeared in seven conference championship matches, made four NCAA Tournament appearances, earned four NCAA tournament victories and made an appearance in the Sweet 16 in 2015.

Gibboney's Lycoming teams won double digits in eight of his 11 years including 18 in the 2015 season when the Warriors advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. The Warriors followed that up two years later with a school record 19 wins in 2017 as Lycoming won the MAC Commonwealth title, downing Messiah 2-1 in Grantham. That Warrior team finished ninth in the national rankings.

Gibboney has coached four conference Rookies of the Year, four All-Americans, 21 All-Region picks, three conference Defensive Players of the Year, 41 All-Conference selections, eight Scholar All-Region honorees, two NCAA Postgraduate Scholars and eight Academic All-MAC selections.

Prior to Lycoming, Gibboney spent three years as an assistant coach at Lafayette College. With the Leopards, Gibboney assisted the head coach in all aspects of coaching and program administration and was actively involved in recruiting. He helped the team to three winning seasons, culminating the run when the team won the 2012 Patriot League title and earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament. He also had assistant coaching stints at Westminster and Vassar.

Gibboney was a four-year starter and two-year captain at Susquehanna University, where he helped the Crusaders reach the postseason for the first time in school history in 2003. Gibboney was named the team's Defensive Player of the Year as a senior and he was a First Team All-Commonwealth Conference selection.

Gibboney earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Susquehanna in 2005 and a Master of Education degree from Westminster in 2007. He holds Advanced National, National, Advanced Regional, Regional and Goalkeeping Coaching Licenses.
