York College Spartans kick off the 2019 fall season

Fall teams advance to the CAC tournament.

Men's Cross Country

The Spartans were picked first in the Capital Athletic Conference pre-season poll … the Spartans are four-time CAC champions after last year's title … the Spartans finished ninth at the Mid-East Regionals last year, it was the fourth straight top ten finish at the Mid-East regional championship … the Spartans will host the inaugural EW Relay Classic to open the season on Friday, August 30 on campus … the Spartans are set to host the final Capital Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, November 2 … York has two events in September, October and November in a very balanced schedule.

Women's Cross Country

The Spartans were picked first in the Capital Athletic Conference pre-season poll … the women's cross country team is the second Spartan squad to win three consecutive Capital Athletic Conference championships in school history, matching the men's cross country team's three titles from 2011-13 … the Spartans finished ninth at the Mid-East Regionals last year, the third time they have been inside the top ten in a regional championship … the Spartans will host the inaugural EW Relay Classic to open the season on Friday, August 30 … the Spartans are set to host the final Capital Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, November 2 … York has two events in September, October and November in a very balanced schedule.

Field Hockey

The Spartan field hockey squad enters the season with 389 wins in 50 years as a varsity sport at York College … the Spartans were picked to finish third in the CAC Preseason poll as Salisbury was a unanimous first place selection while CNU was slated to finish second … the Spartans played 13 one-goal games last year as they went 6-7 in those contests … the Spartans will face six schools ranked in the NFHCA Preseason Top 20 … York travels to #4 Messiah (Oct. 16), #7 Salisbury (Oct. 30), #9 Rochester (Aug. 30 at Messiah), #10 Franklin & Marshall (Sept 18), and  #13 Montclair State (Oct. 5) while they will host #16 Christopher Newport (Oct. 26) … this year is the final Capital Athletic Conference campaign for the field hockey squad as they join the rest of the athletic department in their move to the MAC starting next July.

Men's Soccer

The Spartans enter their 51st season of play with 449 wins as a program … the Spartan men's soccer teams owns the most CAC titles in school history with eight … York's last CAC title came in 2013 … the men's soccer program will play its last season in the CAC as they join the rest of the athletic department in making the move to the MAC on July 1, 2020 … York went 4-3 in one-goal games last fall … York did not attempt a penalty kick last year, making the second straight year with zero PK's … the Spartans went 5-for7 in PK's in 2017 ... the Spartans are picked to finish fifth of six CAC teams in the preseason coaches poll.

Women's Soccer

The Spartans are 230-172-36 in their 23 years of varsity competition at York … the Spartans are picked to finish fourth in the CAC according to the preseason coaches poll … the women's soccer program is playing its last year in the Capital Athletic Conference as they will compete in the MAC starting in 2020 … the Spartans were just 3-6 in one-goal games last fall.

Volleyball

The Spartans were picked to finish third in the Capital Athletic Conference behind a unanimous Christopher Newport in first and Mary Washington in second … the Spartans totaled 15 points to edge out Salisbury (14) for third place … the Green and White finished third in the CAC in attack percentage (.195) last year while they were also third in block solos (69), block assists (291), and blocks per set (1.99) … Madyson Whitcomb led the CAC in attack percentage (.398) and was ninth in kills per set (2.42) … Whitcomb also ranked fifth in blocks per set (0.93) … the Spartans will play in four in-season tournaments during the year kicking off with the Battlefield Classic in Gettysburg on August 30-31 … the Spartans will play each CAC opponent twice in a home-and-home series … this will be the final year in the CAC for the Spartans as they, along with the rest of the Spartan athletic department, will head to the MAC starting on July 1, 2020.
