YCP Spartans advance to CAC post season tournaments

Fall teams advance to the CAC tournament.

The York College fall athletic teams are ready to embark on their 2018 Capital Athletic Conference post season tournaments starting on Saturday, October 27.

Here is a breakdown of each sport and where the Spartans stand heading into their respective championships.

Men’s & Women’s Cross Country – Saturday, October 27 in Buena Vista, Virginia

The Spartan cross country teams head to Southern Virginia to participate in the conference championships. The Spartan women enter the championships as the two-team defending champions. York is led by seniors Jessica DelViscio and Alayna De Bruin as York looks to challenge for another conference title. On the men’s side, seniors Ray Smith and Matthew Zubrycki lead the charge for the Green and White as York brings a strong pack mentality to the championships.

Women’s Soccer vs. St. Mary’s College – Saturday, October 27 at Graham Field – 2:00 pm

The Spartan women’s soccer team earned the third seed in the CAC tournament after York closed out the regular season with a 2-1 win at Salisbury on Wednesday. The Spartans will host sixth seeded St. Mary’s College in the opening round of the CAC Tournament on Saturday. The Spartans have played well in the month of October as York has won four of their last six matches heading into the opening round of the tournament. Senior Caitlin Rankin lead the Spartans in scoring with 18 points on four goals and a conference-leading 10 assists.

Men’s Soccer at Frostburg State – Saturday, October 27 at Frostburg, Md. – 7:15 pm

The Spartan men’s soccer squad closed out their regular season with an emphatic 5-0 win over rival Salisbury as the Spartans picked up their 10th win for the first time since the 2013 season. York lost a tiebreaker for the final home playoff spot so they head to Frostburg State University on Saturday looking to avenge last Saturday’s 1-0 loss to the Bobcats at Graham Field. The Spartans went 4-2-1 in October and sport an impressive 7-2-1 mark on the road this fall. The Spartans have a trio of players leading the way offensively as Nathan Bilbie, Isiah Dorsey, and Keith Witherell all have nine points for York. The Spartans have had 15 players score at least one goal this season.

Volleyball vs. loser of Salisbury/Frostburg State – Tuesday, October 30 – 7:00 pm

The Spartan volleyball squad secured the third seed in the CAC Tournament after defeating Salisbury 3-1 on Wednesday night in York. The Green and White finished tied for third with Southern Virginia but earned the higher seed by virtue of their 3-0 last Saturday in York. The Spartans are a seasoned squad with six seniors. York has won a season-high five straight and are 7-2 in the month of October. York plays in the Eastern University tournament to wrap up the regular season this weekend. The Spartans play the loser of the Salisbury and Frostburg State match that will be held on Friday, October 26 at Frostburg State. The Spartans’ six seniors have led the way on the floor for York. Brooke Krebs, Eryn Brady, Alexis Harbold, Heather Secrist, Cheyenne Altland, and Molly McCann have provided York with leadership and outstanding play throughout the year.

Field Hockey vs. winner of Christopher Newport/Frostburg State – Wednesday, October 31 – Time TBD

The Spartan field hockey team capped a very successful campaign by earning the second seed in the CAC Tournament. The Spartans, who earned a first round bye, will host the winner of the Christopher Newport and Frostburg State first round game which will be held on Sunday. The Spartans are 5-2 in October with one match left at Frostburg State on Thursday (10/25) afternoon. The two losses in October were one goal losses to #8 Salisbury and #10 Franklin & Marshall. Junior Greta Plappert leads the way for York with 33 points on 14 goals and five assists. Sophomore Dana Meehling has added 20 points on eight goals and four assists. ‘
