York College to present weekend of musical events beginning on Dec. 10
York College will present a weekend of musical performances beginning on with the Holiday Festival Concert at 3 p.m. on Dec. 10, Student Piano Recital at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 11, and the York College Community Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 12. All events are open to the public free of charge.
The annual holiday musical performance on Dec. 10 in the Waldner Performing Arts Center features the York College Chorale, directed by Associate Professor of Music Grace Muzzo, and Wind Symphony, conducted by Professor of Music and Director of Instrumental Studies Matthew Inkster. Audience members will enjoy the holiday spirit with both secular and sacred music of the season, topped off with an audience sing-along at the conclusion of this festive program.
Piano students from the York College Division of Music and the York College Preparatory Community Music School will present a recital of preludes and fugues by composers spanning several centuries from Bach to the present day on Dec. 11 in DeMeester Recital Hall, Wolf Hall.
Conducted by Adjunct Faculty Zachary Levi, the York College Community Orchestra will perform on Dec. 12 in Waldner Performing Arts Center. This ensemble, comprised of York College students and community musicians, will perform overtures and shorter works by Schubert, Bizet and Tchaikovsky. Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Vocal Studies Erin Lippard, soprano, will join the Orchestra in a performance of Rodrigo’s “Songs of Love and War.”
