York College has named Dr. Nezam Al-Nsair as the inaugural dean of the School of Nursing and Health Professions. He will join the College in July.

“This is a tremendously important hire for the College and for the York community,” said York College Provost Laura Niesen de Abruna. “We plan to partner with the health care community in York to develop innovative programs in the health professions drawing on the wisdom of the York health care community and on the expertise of our founding dean. Dr. Al-Nsair has the initiative and creativity to develop a wide range of new programs at the College, and we are delighted with this hire.”

Al-Nsair is the current chair and director of the Department of Nursing at the University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio, where he is a professor of nursing.  He earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati, a Master of Science in Nursing from Villanova University, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Jordan University of Science and Technology, Jordan.

Al-Nsair has vast leadership, academic, and clinical experiences. He served on the faculty of several institutions of higher education, including Walsh University, Wright State University, Jordan University of Science and Technology and the College of Mount St. Joseph. He was instrumental in the development and accreditation of several traditional undergraduate, completion, accelerated, and graduate and online programs.

Among his scholastic achievements are numerous grants submissions, publications, and national and international presentations. In addition, Al-Nsair served for several years as a staff nurse in the acute care settings.

Al-Nsair serves as accreditation peer reviewer for national and international institutions of higher education. He served as peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission and he is the elected vice president for the Ohio Council of Deans and Directors for schools of nursing with BSN or higher since 2014.

This is the second appointment of a dean of a school at York College, as it restructures its academic organization from departments to five schools.
