York College has received a second grant from Gov. Tom Wolf’s It’s On Us (IOU) PA campaign. The College was one of 39 postsecondary institutions in Pennsylvania named as 2017-18 recipients of more than $950,000 in IOU grants.

The previous funding the College received from the IOU 2016-2017 grant cycle was instrumental in enhancing the Office of Student Affairs’ ability to participate in the campaign. Specifically, educational programming and awareness initiatives were markedly expanded for students, faculty, and staff interested in becoming more informed about and involved in prevention practices.

In October 2016, York College also secured a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women. This provided funds for the College to hire a Coordinator of Sexual/Relationship Violence Prevention to organize events and workshops, liaise between on-campus and off-campus partners, and measure the effectiveness and efficiency of these projects and respond appropriately.

For the 2017-2018 IOU grant cycle, the College has identified several areas to be further improved or expanded. “Our goal is to expand resources and the spectrum of services available on campus,” said Liz Grubb, coordinator of sexual/relationship violence prevention. “We plan to undertake projects that will improve upon already existing awareness, prevention, reporting, and response systems. This will strengthen the tools available to survivors of sexual violence, while also working to reduce the frequency of such occurrences.”

York College will use funds from the grant to further awareness efforts during the year. This would take several forms, including broadening the current approach to engaging men and showing awareness during designated months, i.e., April for Sexual Assault Awareness Month and October for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Additionally, the College will increase and improve the resources given to victims of assault and make this information effective and consistent for any reporting agency/organization on campus. The College will work with YWCA York and other community partners to provide information about off-campus resources and will reevaluate and update any materials related to on-campus resources.
