Before there was “Rent,” there was “Tick, Tick… BOOM!” The 2001 autobiographical musical navigates the life of an aspiring composer. His 30thbirthday is fast approaching, and Jon wonders if he's stalled out professionally while his relationship troubles heat up. Follow Jon (Lance Mitchell, a first-year theatre major from York) as he navigates feelings of doubt and a crisis of confidence while being pressed to make a life-changing decision.
“Tick, Tick… BOOM!” is an ode to musical theatre and a tour de force for a trio of performers. First-year theatre majors James Harrison of Philadelphia and Hannah Rowan from Collegeville round out the cast.
Larson is best known for his Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical “Rent.” “Tick, Tick … BOOM!” is the only other musical he worked on before his untimely death in 1996. York College’s show features a professional team of directors, including Nugent, Irving Gonzalez with choreography, and Mark Zortman taking on the role of musical director.
