The York College men's basketball squad has earned a bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship tournament as announced on Monday afternoon.

The Spartans earned an At-Large bid after finishing the year at 21-7 and falling in the Capital Athletic Conference championship game on Saturday at Christopher Newport. The Spartans will travel to Ashland, Virginia to face DeSales University in the opening round of the tournament. The winner of that game will face the winner of the host Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets vs. Morrisville State. The first round will be played Friday with the second round game being held on Saturday evening. Official game times will be released on Tuesday.

Spartan head coach Matt Hunter was happy to see his team rewarded for their outstanding season.

"I am really happy for our guys," said Hunter. "They worked extremely hard and took advantage of every opportunity they got. I am proud of what this team has accomplished to this point in the season. I am excited to see what we can do in the tournament."

The Spartans are making their sixth NCAA Tournament appearance as they return to the field after earning an automatic berth last year. The Spartans are making back-to-back tournament appearances for the first time since the 2004-05 and 2005-06 teams both earned tournament invitations.

The Green and White had a banner year as they won a share of the Capital Athletic Conference crown after going 12-2 including a 10 game-win streak. The Spartans blew past St. Mary's in the opening round of the tournament before beating Mary Washington by seven in the CAC semifinals. The Spartans fell at Christopher Newport in the championship game as the Captains exacted revenge for York earning the 2017-18 CAC title in the Freeman Center.

The Spartans have not faced DeSales since November 18, 2005, when York beat the Bulldogs 74-60 in the opening round of the Dickinson Tournament to open the 2005-06 campaign. York is 12-6 all-time against DeSales.

York traveled to Ashland between Christmas and New Years in 2016 as they participated in the R-MC Coaches Tournament. York defeated Johns Hopkins 76-72 in overtime before falling to the host Yellow Jackets 69-62 in the championship game of the tournament. York has never played Morrisville State in men's basketball.

York is 5-6 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and advanced past the first round in three of their five NCAA tournament appearances.
