‘She Gon’ Learn,’ solo play by Philly actress Lisa Strum, to be presented at York College on Nov. 14

Philadelphia actress Lisa Strum will present “She Gon’ Learn,” a solo play in which she plays eight different characters as she navigates a triumphant coming-of-age journey to self-love and, ultimately, self-respect, at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 14, in York College’s DeMeester Recital Hall, Wolf Hall. The event is open to the public.

Strum is a single woman looking for love, but will she learn from her past mistakes? The audience will enjoy a hilarious and poignant tracing of the heart’s scars with spoken word, song, mother wit, a distant father, the trials and tribulations of childhood, a string of bad dates, and a defining relationship that will expose her to one of life’s hardest lessons.

“She Gon’ Learn” performed to sold-out audiences during the United Solo Festival at Theatre Row last fall and garnered one of the festival’s Best Solo Show Awards in New York City. The play had its inaugural showing with the Emerging Artist Theatre Festival at TADA! Theatre in Manhattan, and has since been performed at The Kraine Theatre for the Obie-Award-Winning Fire This Time Festival, and at the legendary National Black Theatre in Harlem.

As an actor, Strum has also performed at Lincoln Center Theatre, Summer Stage, Signature Theatre, New Federal Theatre, Intiman Theatre, ACT Seattle, The Fifth Avenue Theatre, and “48 Hours in…Harlem.” She has had a recurring role on “Law & Order: SVU” and co-stared in the television pilot “Citizen Baines” with James Cromwell. As an educational consultant, she has worked in numerous public schools throughout New York, conducted theatre workshops for Teachers College at Columbia University, and has acted as the theatre specialist for the Abrons Arts Center, Barbara L. Tate Arts Camp for the past nine seasons. Strum is an MFA graduate of the University of Washington Professional Actor Training Program.
