Former White House advisor to discuss immigration at York College on Oct. 22
Former White House advisor and immigration expert Angela Maria Kelley will present “Immigration Today” at 7 p.m., Oct. 22, in York College’s Weinstock Lecture Hall. She is serving as a Woodrow Wilson/Council of Independent Colleges Visiting Fellow at the College, and her talk is open to the public free of charge.
Kelley currently serves as senior strategic advisor for immigration at the Open Society Foundations and Open Society Policy Center. Her work focuses on the policies and politics of immigration and integration at the state and federal level. Kelley previously served as executive director of the Center for American Progress Action Fund and senior vice president at the Center for American Progress (CAP) from 2015 to 2017 and vice president for immigration policy from 2009 to 2014. Under her leadership, CAP published numerous impactful reports and analysis on topics such as the economic impact of state anti-immigrant laws, the economic value of immigration reform, and the integration trends of America’s newcomers.
In 2014, Kelley served as White House advisor on immigration executive actions. She is herself the daughter of South American immigrants. Kelley is a graduate of The George Washington University Law School and was a Georgetown University Law School Women’s Law and Public Policy Fellow.
