- I like working with people. and the best thing about the major is, almost every class, you get hands on work. And I knew I wanted to be here, and I was in the right place. - One of the best things about the recreation administration major, is that there is so many different options for a student. There's two different focuses. One is recreation management. - And you would work on parks and rec jobs. Community centers, like YMCAs. Or even working with sports complexes. - And the other aspect is recreation therapy. You are developing care plans, goals and objectives for individuals that have a disability. - You could work in a hospital, you could work in camp settings with people with special needs, you could work in a senior center. There's a ton of options. There's a lot of need for what we do. - What we were doing at the senior facility, was facilitating the thing that we're learning in class, and making sure that we are programming specific activities for them, that are going to engage them. And it made me feel important. It made me feel that I had something to give and to offer to them. - Good enthusiasm. - Thank you. - One of our courses that's called Special Events Pragramming, and the whole focus is planning a large campus event that's called Spartapalooza. And that's in the fall, every year. And the students are involved in every aspect of that event. - It's extremely valuable because you're getting to know how to build a special event from the ground, up, right away. - I'm very enthusiastic, and I don't want to sit in an office all day. I want to be out there, working with people having fun, and bringing joy and humor to their everyday lives. And that's when I really realized that this major is exactly what I'm here for. - Our students actually have to do two internship experiences, and that we can possibly lead into a job, or a reference for job elsewhere. The most exciting thing that I would say about my major, would be just how much you can have an impact on other people. And once I got to do that, I just absolutely fell in love with the major, and I knew that I was in the right place.
