- - I'm the social media coordinator for Phi Sigma Pi National Honor fraternity based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. My job is to communicate with our members via different social media platforms. We have 5,000 collegiate members currently. We just hit our 50,000 mark not too long ago of life time members. I was first in Phi Sigma Pi as an undergraduate. I joined my freshman year. I was able to take leadership roles within as well. I started as a social chair and then moved up to president my senior year. And then eventually led me here to my position now. Social media's really important to an organization like ours because our main membership in who we're speaking to are collegiate members or recent college grads. Well, one of the first things I'll do in the morning is check Facebook and Twitter and all of our social media accounts and see if anybody's interacted with us. We can see what they're talking about even without them reaching directly out to us. We're able to stay on top of what trends they're interested in, what different brands, things like that they're interested in. I'll set up the schedule for the day for posts on different platforms and I'll meet with different co-workers, trying to see if there's any areas that I can use social media to help them communicate their different ideas. One of the biggest things that I learned as an English major is how to communicate your ideas. Any class that I had, whether it was writing for the web or just approaching a new writing style, you just jumped in and your professors gave you the background and the confidence to just go for it. I'm definitely grateful to York College. Not only did it give me my best friends, it also prepared me for life after college, which is really important. Four years goes by really fast, but then you've got the rest of your life after that. And it's really helped me and prepared me for everything that's come after.
