- One, two, three, four - [Lauren] When artists come in, they're like awestruck by seeing the studio because it's professional, I love it - [Dan] As the program is framed so that you can go into the business side or the industry side, you learn both here, as well as performance so you grow as a musician as well. - [Shawn] Students who are interested in being a musician, but also earning a living would be attracted to a program like this. The ability to renegotiate, that is in the original contract It offers you a number of different areas not only music but also business, technology. The successful musician has to have a basic understanding of all of those areas if they want to really succeed in their craft. - [Carole] Well the music business cla&sses are going to try to explore every career interest that will be available to students, things like business law publishing, concert promotions, about how record labels work, about how music is marketed. - [Jake] York Music Group is a collection of organizations that includes a record label, YCP Records, events company, York Live, publishing, networking, and the studio. We focus on giving students the real world experience of the music industry. It's available to all students no matter what their field of study is. - Sing like you're going to sing so we can make sure the levels are the same. - [Lauren] I can say that I worked at a record label, I have that on my resume, I know the business, I know how to write and read and negotiate a contract with an artist. - [Carole] Internships are a very integral part of our program, they're required. So it could be anything from working with LA Studio, with putting music to TV and film, to working with a lot of regional theaters. - [Jake] If you're a business major like me, you can still take any classes you want as electives. I do really enjoy music, and I love artists, I really want to be around that in the future. - [Shawn] We hope that the students will leave here with a good combination of ability in music and business and production, but also to leave here as entrepreneurs.
