Ecology Class at York College of Pennsylvania

Biology

Hands-on lab activities, conducting research, gathering field samples — just a typical semester for the always-active, always-involved Biological Sciences student.

We think you learn best by doing. That’s why right from the start, you’ll start getting familiar with our state-of-the-art labs as we prepare you for post-graduate work or a career using equipment you’ll already know how to use before your first day on the job.

Whether your focus is on the molecular or organismal level, we have passionate, knowledgeable faculty — with terminal degrees and published research to their credit— to guide you, as well as our Richard Clark Lecture Series with guest experts to broaden and challenge your thinking. You will even have the opportunity to present your research at regional and national science conferences — an incredible experience.

With an emphasis on investigative, data-intensive labs and thesis research, York College students in the Biology major are ready for the rapidly changing scientific community. Download a transcript of this video.

Concentrations within the Biology Major

A concentration in biotechnology will provide you a greater understanding of how these are used in biomedical and health-based industries. Hands-on experience isn’t just offered, it’s the core of the biology program. Our class sizes are small, giving you access to individual attention from industry-leading faculty who are invested in your success. Through internships in your chosen field, you will gain real-world experience in applications and techniques to be successful, from day one.

  • Cell and Molecular Biology

    Cell and Molecular Biology

Have you ever wondered… How do cells move? Shouldn’t water soak through our skin when we shower?

A concentration in cell and molecular biology answers these questions. You will develop an in-depth understanding how the techniques of molecular biology and genetics are used to understand cell function. In our state-of-the-art laboratories, you will work alongside passionate and knowledgeable faculty who are dedicated to your success.

  • Ecology and Conservation

    Ecology and Conservation

As humans, our activity affects the world around us from terrestrial and marine habitats to global ecological issues.

Explore real-world issues alongside knowledgeable faculty to identify and solve these problems with a biology concentration in ecology and conservation. Through research, analysis and discussion you will develop a greater understanding of the current local and global ecology issues.

  • Pre-Health Professions

    Pre-Health Professions

Interested in pursuing a career as a physician, dentist or optometrist? Our pre-health profession concentration will put you on the path to success.

As a pre-health professional student, you will gain the core knowledge in structure and function relationships related to animal and human bodies.  Hands-on learning starts your first day of classes in our state-of-the-art labs with knowledgeable faculty – with terminal degrees and published research to their credit – preparing you for a lifetime of meaningful careers.
