Even Moodle has a practical side...

    Linking Pedagogy to Moodle Tools

We all think about Moodle as a place for grades, attendance, communication, and maybe file storage, but did you ever think how the tools might fit into your pedagogy?

The Moodle team is here to help. We love sharing tips like:

Lesson can be used to create information transfer with its branching and testing aspects. While they take a bit effort and a little bit of planning to set up, they can be rewarding once complete.

Moodle Forum (a.k.a. Discussion Boards) can be an easy tool for those who are still learning Moodle. This tool shows its strengths in communication and interaction as well as co-creation of content through the exchange of information and ability to explore information together.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. It’s clear that should be marked as words from another author, but sometimes plagiarism isn’t quite so obvious. IDT has added VeriCite, a plagiarism-detection plugin, to Moodle to help our faculty determine what may not be wholly original writing in submitted assignments and forum posts. As a bonus, check out the video to see a neat new feature in announcements!

The Instructional Design and technology team offers an array of tools to increase engagement and collaboration in the face-to-face, blended, and online classroom.

    • Ilos: If you have a YCP email account, you have access to our ilos video recorder!. Ilos is easy to record, share, edit, and manage videos in the cloud within one app.
    • Swivl: A great tool for faculty! A Svivl camera rotates to follow the teacher and record video and audio.
    • One Button Studio: Located in the Schmidt Library, the One Button Studio is a simplified video recording setup that can be used without any previous video production experience. The design of the studio allows you to create high-quality and polished video projects without having to know anything about lights and cameras.
