Joel Bish '96
Joel Bish ’96, Ph.D. (Schwenksville, Pa.), an associate professor of psychology at Ursinus College, recently received tenure at the four-year liberal arts college in Collegeville, Pa. He joined the faculty in 2005 in the Psychology Department and serves as the coordinator for the College’s neuroscience major.
He received his B.S. in psychology from York College, before going on to Towson University in Baltimore for his M.S. and the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque for his Ph.D.
“YCP prepared me well for my goal of teaching and mentoring research students,” Joel said. “Professor Mary K. Reed also helped introduce me to my wife, who was also a psychology major.”
Between graduate school and Ursinus, Joel was an NIH National Research Service Award fellow at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
“The fellowship ensured me a research position for two years studying brain imaging in children with genetic abnormalities,” he said. “Over those two years, I was able to complete a number of projects that led to publications in multiple journals and gave me a competitive edge in the academic job market.”
Joel advised students currently enrolled at York College to make the most of their time on campus.
“Get to know your professors,” he added. “They are invaluable resources.”
