Dr. Pamela Gunter-Smith assumed the presidency in 2013, the institution’s first woman and person of color to lead the College. Her presidency has been marked by a strengthening relationship between the College and the York community and infusing the student experience with high impact practices including experiential learning.
During her tenure, the College has assumed a 5-school academic structure, launched its first comprehensive campaign receiving its largest philanthropic gift, improved retention and graduation rates, and increased support for academic pursuits and student scholarships. Dr. Gunter-Smith’s outreach to the community includes the opening of two facilities in downtown York – the Center for Community Engagement and Marketview Arts.
In addition, the College is a prominent partner in the renovation of the historic Yorktowne Hotel, a project that will provide students in various majors with an active project-based learning experience. She has expanded the College’s footprint through the acquisition of the Colonial Shopping Center, ensuring opportunities for future expansion.
