Matthew Apol '07 named Appell Arts Fellow

Matthew Apol

Matthew Apol, a 2007 graduate of York College, has been named as the sixth recipient of the College’s Appell Arts Fellowship.

After graduating with a dual major in fine art and graphic design, Apol worked as a graphic designer for Toys R Us, Bright Logic, and The Creative People Group. He took some time away from designing to open and operate CrossFit Momentum, a personal fitness facility in Nyack, N.Y. Upon selling his business, Matt returned to York in 2016 to pursue his career in the arts.

“Coming back to York has reconnected me with a great network of resources in the arts,” Apol said. “I want to teach students how to take advantage of the opportunities available to them in Marketview Arts and Downtown York to gain the experiences they need to succeed as artists.”

The Appell Fellowship was established in 2012 through a generous gift from the late Louis Appell Jr.  Last year, the Anne and Philip Glatfelter Foundation added its support to continue this program, honoring the legacy of Appell while supporting the ongoing growth of the York arts community.

The Appell Fellow works from a dedicated studio in York College’s Marketview Arts building, honing skills in both his/her craft and in promoting the arts in the community. Previous Fellows include Rita King Whitney (who now owns Prime Art Supply in York’s Royal Square), Kree Weide, Dillon Samuelson, Anya Felch, and Cody Bannon.
