Graham and Eisenhart Scholars present their solutions for ways to improve a program at the York County Food Bank as part of their Entrepreneurial Thinking First Year Seminar.

Some York College students have spent many Friday afternoons this semester in line at the York County Food Bank.

They were trying to figure out how to make the experience better for the community members who go there for the Food for Families program.

The students saw families willing to wait hours to get the food they need to get by for the week. They saw elderly, disabled and sometimes frustrated community members, waiting in heat, cold and rain, all because they need food.

Those visits were the only way to really understand what those people were going through, students said.

"You get to know people, where they come from, what their story is," said Larissa Manzano. "You're putting yourself in their shoes."

Freshman enrolled in an entrepreneurial thinking class at the college focused on the York County Food Bank for the first half of the semester. Their task was to identify a solution to improve the experience for those hungry folks in line at the food bank.
