“Casting Shadows” is a visual representation of Black American History, community, and stories.  It is designed to change the narratives we tell about the Black history and the Black community. The images depict York’s Black lives from emancipation, through the civil rights movement, into the present conversations. The product of scholarly research and conversations with York’s current residents, it is told through more than 20 original works of art that highlight the historic vitality of our community.
