Young Alumni Council

Leading the Way for Young Alumni

The Young Alumni Council is the advisory board for York College helping to shape and establish programming for recent graduates. The Council focuses on increasing the shared connection between young alumni and the College and advises the Alumni Relations Office on programming and services for young alumni and students.

The Young Alumni Council was founded in 2010 and consists of seven leadership positions and a maximum of 25 Council members overall. 

The goals of YAC are to: 

1. Achieve 100% donor participation across the Young Alumni Council membership
2. Advise York College offices and departments on the needs of young alumni
3. Implement young alumni-specific programming annually
4. Establish mentoring relationships between Young Alumni Council members and
each Student Alumni Ambassador
5. Assess the progress and performance of all Council goals and activities

Applications for the Young Alumni Council are now closed.

    Mission, Vision, and Goals

    Mission

    Young Alumni Council encourages personal development for
    alumni and furthers the mission of York College of Pennsylvania by building
    connections between young alumni and all stakeholders of the College including faculty,
    staff, students, and more. We strengthen both the York College and York City
    communities by promoting volunteerism and philanthropic giving.

    Vision

    Young Alumni Council will instill the notion of “Spartans for Life”
    and our motto, To Serve Is to Live. Through the cultivation of young alumni volunteers
    and donors, and will create personal and professional opportunities for all students to
    aid in their transition from student to alumni. 

    Goals and Objectives

  • Responsibilities and Duties

    Membership Expectations

    The minimum responsibilities of all Council members include:

    • Participation in the York College Fund – Members are asked to make a personally meaningful gift to the College that is also a personal best. Members are expected to make a gift during the annual YCP Day of Giving. These may be the same.

    • Meetings – Members are expected to attend each Young Alumni council meeting. One meeting per year may be attended remotely. Should a Council member be unable to attend a mandatory meeting, they must notify the president at least 30 days prior to the scheduled meeting. 

    • Participation – Members of the Council are required to be involved in a minimum of three York College related events or programs. Examples include annual events such as Fall Fest, SpartaNation, and YCP Day of Giving and programs such as Spartan Pen Pals and Social Media Ambassadors. Council members are encouraged to attend more as they are able. 

    • Alumni Engagement Portfolio – Each member of the Young Alumni Council will manage a portfolio of fellow young alumni and serve as a liaison in connecting them back to York College and their engagement in events, etc.

    • A representative of York College – Council members serve as advocates for the College and as representatives of the Council. As such, they must act in a professional manner at all related functions and events.

  • How to Join

    Interested in joining the Young Alumni Council?

    Young Alumni Council members are appointed for two-year terms. All executive board officer positions are appointed to a one year term, with the exception of the president which is a two-year term. 

    Applications for both general membership and officer positions are now open. Apply above by Monday, April 15, 2019.

    To be eligible for the Young Alumni Council, you must have graduated from York College between 2009 – 2019. Applications are reviewed by the current Council in consultation with the Office of Alumni Relations.
