My name is Arianna Keller '21 and I am a junior Mass Communications major and film studies minor. YCP Road Crew has been a great and long adventure. I’ve had a lot of fun going to the site visits and learning about what other people do for a living. The site visit to Universal Media was no exception. There, we met alumni Kyle Cook '11, VP of Digital Media.
While at Universal Media, we had a quality conversation with Kyle. It was one of the best site visits to me because we learned a lot about what his company does and how he goes about his day-to-day job responsibilities. While his role doesn't directly apply to my major of mass communications, it was incredibly interesting. He gave us lots of useful advice that will help me as I go into the professional world. One piece of advice that stood out to me was to, “read as much as possible," because it wasn’t the first time an alumnus/a has told us that. Always being willing to learn is important when it comes to being in the workforce. Kyle said being well rounded is always a good thing.
We also talked a lot about Kyle’s life as a student at York College. His time on the baseball team did a lot for him. He explained how he loved being at York College and all of the memories he had from being there. We asked him what his favorite part was and he said the friendships. This, too, stood out to me because one of my favorite things at York College is the friendships that I’ve made. Hearing him talk about YCP reminded me why I came. It’s good to know that York College was always a nice and friendly environment. Even though this site visit wasn’t directly related to my major, it was definitely a great opportunity to learn things I didn’t know beforehand.
