My name is Victoria Wantz and I am a junior Marketing major at York College. This is my first year as a Road Crew member and the experiences I’ve had so far certainly do not fall short. On Tuesday, January 7th, the Road Crew members and I visited PeopleDoc, a company based in New York City that provides software to optimize Human Resource practices for companies. There, we met alumna Katie Spadaro '14 who is a Field Marketing Manager for the company.
Our trip to PeopleDoc included a tour of the New York building and some Q&A time with Katie. The company had a modern and trendy look and felt like a supportive environment. From group collaboration rooms with whiteboards, a coffee and snack bar, to an amazing view of the city, this company had it all—they even allow you to bring your pet to work!
Personally, what resonated most with me was Katie’s advice to take a chance. She mentioned that she took a chance with PeopleDoc and it was one of the best choices she had ever made. Taking chances is critical for students like me who yearn to be successful professionals in the future.
Katie also shared that YCP laid a great foundation of skills such as interpersonal communication, leadership, negotiation, and much more. Getting involved in the campus community helped her gain the skills necessary for the professional world and where she is working today. She attributes a lot of her growth to the skills and lessons she learned at York College.
I have learned so much through my trip to New York City and PeopleDoc especially! This visit alone proved how important strong company culture is for individuals as well as the success of the company. Alumni like Katie provide us with vital information that will contribute to our future success upon graduation.
