SpartaNation 2020 | Day Six Site Visits

Meet Our Site Visit Hosts

Caitlin Hartzel '12
Instructional Designer, CSC Global
Bachelor of Science in Recreation

What does it mean to you to have York College students coming to your place of work for a special site visit?
It means a lot to have the SpartaNation tour come to CSC! My time at YCP shaped me into the person I am, and I still feel so connected to the school. CSC has by far been my most rewarding professional experience, and I am excited for these two worlds to collide.

How has York College helped you get to where you are today?
While I certainly gained professional experience and learned a lot during my time at York, my real connection is more personal. Because of my experiences, and the organizations I was involved in, I grew into a more confident woman. I became a leader for the first time, I found my voice and the power to make decisions, all while feeling more comfortable in my own skin. All of these qualities shine through daily in my personal life and in my professional career. I truly believe that I would not be doing what I am today without my time at YCP.

How have you been engaged with YCP since graduation?
I give annually to the York College Fund. I visit when I can during Fall Fest, I've attended local alumni events, and have recently become a Spartan Social Ambassador. Every year I feel like, despite the distance, it becomes easier to stay connected to YCP.

Gregg Schmidt '00
Head of External Communications, Corteva Agriscience
Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations

What are some of your big-picture job responsibilities?
I lead a team that promotes and protects the vision and business objectives of Corteva with media, investors, the public and other important external stakeholders. My team also works to communicate effectively at our sites around the world and manage engagements with employees, media, and local stakeholders in the communities in which we operate. I have global responsibilities for M&A and transaction communications, issues and crisis communications, and science & technology communications for Corteva.

How has York College helped you get to where you are today?
York College has played a huge role in my life. I knew I wanted to work in “communications” but it wasn’t until one meeting I had with my academic advisor, Professor Lowell Briggs, did I ever consider public relations. He talked me into switching majors from Mass Communications to Public Relations and the rest is history. I loved my four years at YCP and some of my closest friends are people I met the first day I arrived in August 1996.

What do you enjoy most about your current role?
The action and the grind. No day is ever the same and every project I work on and lead has an important piece to play in the success of my company.
