Capitol Hill

Road Crew and JL at Capitol Building
JL Smith, "first dude" of York College, and Road Crew

My name is Lauren Prange '20 and I am a senior Political Science and Criminal Justice major. This is my first year on Road Crew and I am very excited for all of the opportunities that I and the rest of Road Crew will have throughout SpartaNation. We are now in the last week of our Spartanation tour and it has been a blast! Today we were able to visit Capitol Hill and have a tour. We were given this opportunity by alumnus Congressman Scott Perry '91, the U.S. Representative for Pennsylvania's 10th congressional district.

This was a great experience and it took place on a very historic day. It was the first day of the impeachment trial so the city was bustling. It was really cool to be given the opportunity to see what the Capitol looks like on a day of business. Of course, we didn’t get to see any of the ongoing impeachment trials in person, but it was interesting knowing that it was happening so close. I found this visit especially interesting because even though I had been to the Capitol before, this was a different experience altogether. I learned different information than the previous times and had the chance to see some of the newer statues that had been added to the collection.

Road Crew is very grateful to have been given the opportunity to tour the Capitol and we really appreciate Congressman Scott Perry for the experience. The cool thing about visiting the Capitol is that each time, you learn something new. So as someone who looks to be a lawyer in the future and is also interested in the history of our College, this was a great opportunity.
