Hannah Copenheaver ’13 used her international experiences from York College to land a position assisting companies around south-central Pennsylvania with their exporting needs.
As a trade specialist at World Trade Center Harrisburg, Hannah provides technical trade assistance to local businesses, markets WTC Harrisburg's events and manages their social media accounts. She’s also pursing a master’s degree in international service.
“The fact that I was prepared academically and mentally to enter the professional world gave me the confidence I needed to pursue grad school,” said Hannah.
While at York, Hannah’s international interest grew after an international service-learning trip to India with David Fyfe, Ph.D., which led to her declaring international relations as her major. She followed up this experience with a trip to El Salvador with Enactus (formerly SIFE) and trips to New York City and D.C. for United Nations and European Union simulations.
“We practiced cultural sensitivity, global awareness and peace and conflict resolution during simulations, attributes I use daily,” said Hannah.
During her time at York, she also had three internships that prepared her in different ways -- she learned fundraising techniques at YWCA at York, and at both the World Trade Center Institute in Baltimore and WTC Harrisburg, she learned how to communicate and assist clients with specific international needs.
“I was hired as trade specialist at WTC Harrisburg after five months of successful interning,” she added. “Not only did I develop my analytical and critical thinking skills at York, I bettered myself in leadership.”
