Darrell Henry ’07 came to York College with a passion for sports and left with a career.
Darrell, the play-by-play announcer for the York Revolution and general manager of WOYK 1350-AM, hosts a 20-minute pregame show as part of each broadcast, edits highlights from each game, handles all writing and media relations responsibilities and speaks at team and community functions.
“Gaining experience in my field and developing my professionalism and organizational skills helped me to land the job with the Revolution before graduation,” he said.
As a sport management major, Darrell was given the opportunity to dive into the field of broadcasting and encouraged to get as much hands-on experience as possible.
“I handled public address announcing for home athletic events allowing me to hone my skills and style,” he said. “I also gained a level of comfort on the microphone.”
Understanding the business of sports has also helped in Darrell’s early success, as well as the importance of giving back to the community.
“As coordinator of the Revolution’s Boomer’s Book Club, I’ve been able to reach more than 20,000 elementary students annually,” he added.
