Alpha Sigma Lambda

Alpha Sigma Lambda, a national honor society, is dedicated to the advancement of scholarship and recognizes high scholastic achievement in an adult student's career. By so doing, this society encourages its students to study toward and to earn an associate or baccalaureate degree.

Alpha Sigma Lambda's aim is to recognize the special achievements of adults who accomplish academic excellence while facing competing interests of home and work.

Membership in Alpha Sigma Lambda is restricted to the top 10% of matriculated, part-time students who have been in attendance at York College for a minimum of four consecutive fall and spring semesters, have completed a minimum of thirty (30) York College credit hours, and have achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.5. Additional information regarding selection criteria is available from the Registrar's Office.

The transcripts of students meeting the above criteria are reviewed each year as part of the selection process for induction into Alpha Sigma Lambda.  New honorees are recognized each spring semester during the Recognition Ceremony held in April.

Alpha Sigma Lambda also sponsors academic scholarships to adult students in financial need.  The application information is available in the Registrar’s Office each March and is due back to the office in early April.  Winners are usually announced during the summer months.  York College has had three adult students receive these scholarships in recent years.
