NEW STUDENT DAY

York College of Pennsylvania is proud to sponsor two New Student Days each year.  We want to make your transition to college as smooth as possible.  It's our way to help you become acquainted with the objectives, programs and facilities of the College.  We also take great pride in the strong student to faculty relationships that flourish here.

Come check us out!

We invite newly accepted students and their parents to attend one of two New Student Days.  The first one is held on Saturday, April 24th and the second one is held on Friday, May 7th.

Check-in and a continental breakfast will begin at 8 am in the M & T Field House of the Grumbacher Sport and Fitness Center.  The program will begin promptly at 9 am with a Welcome Session.  At 10:15 am, students will join Orientation Leaders and depart for their academic advising session.  Parents will meet with various college officials representing Housing, Financial Aid, Business Affairs, Academic Affairs and Student Affairs.

A light lunch will be available in the Johnson Dining Hall (located in the Iosue Student Union) for a fee of $6.00 per person at 11:30 am for both parents and students.  Finally, there is a Campus Activities and Student Services Fair where students can get their student ID processed, meet student leaders of various clubs and organizations and meet with representatives from the Bookstore, Residence Life, Career Services, Student Activities & Orientation, Health Center, Athletics & Recreation, Religious Activities, Campus Safety, Counseling Services, Information Technology  and Multicultural Affairs.

In making your travel plans, you can expect to complete the program by 2 pm.

Invitations:
Individual invitations to the New Student Day are usually mailed out to the students in the middle of March.  A registration form is enclosed which needs to be completed and mailed back to the Registrar's Office one week prior to the program.  We need to know the student's major, minor, areas of interests, transfer credits, AP or CLEP credits, if they will be an athlete, foreign language preference and time preference so that we can provide them with an appropriate schedule of classes.  A self-addressed envelope is included for your convenience.  The admissions deposit also needs to be paid in advance (see item No. 1 on the Admissions Acceptance Agreement).  Deposits are accepted on a space availability basis.

New, Transfer and Readmitted Student Registration

  • All new students who have been admitted between September and the end of April for the fall semester are invited to the New Student Day programs.  If students attend one of the two programs, they will receive their individual schedule in the mail approximately one to two weeks after the program was held.
  •  Students who cannot attend a New Student Day program should complete the registration form and check the “Schedule By Mail” option and return the form to the Registrar’s Office.  An individual schedule will be prepared and mailed to the home address.  If you have been admitted after May 1st, you should also follow this procedure.
  • All transfer and readmitted students are encouraged to schedule an appointment with a professional staff member in the Registrar’s Office to register for classes.  We suggest this approach so that we can review all the transfer credits and or York College credits and explain to you how they will apply to your particular major.  Transferring from a different college or starting again at York College can be complicated and we want to help you make that transition as smooth as possible.  If this is not possible, you should complete the registration form and send it to the Registrar’s Office so that we can prepare a Schedule By Mail for you.
  • All of the academic departments have given the Registrar’s Office guidelines as to a typical freshmen schedule for the majors within their departments.  The Registrar’s Office prepares the individual student schedules according to these guidelines.  The typical freshmen schedule is between 14 to 16 credit hours for the fall semester.
  • Spring admits should follow the guidelines above for the Schedule By Mail option for new students and the appointment option for transfer and readmitted students.

Information for New Students

Once you have registered for classes for the next semester, it is important to order books from the York College Bookstore, get an ID card, get a parking hang tag, complete Financial Aid forms and pay your tuition bill.  Further information about these procedures can be found at Registration Information.
