ExCEL stands for Excellence in Creating Extraordinary Leaders. The mission of the ExCEL Leadership Program is to develop and enhance the leadership skills of YCP students through quality leadership workshops and presentations. Through this program we hope to foster a community of responsible and dedicated student leaders that will increase the overall quality of involvement and engagement of the YCP student population as a whole. ExCEL is open to all students and focuses presentations and workshops on organizational leadership skills that students can apply in their current roles.
Interested in presenting or have someone in mind you would like to nominate? ExCEL is always looking to increase the diversity of its programs and presenters! Centered around the mantra of “Excellence,” the Office of Student Activities and Orientation (OSAO) and the Center for Professional Excellence (CPE) collaborate to provide numerous programs focused on developing students as well-rounded leaders and professionals. The Excellence in Creating Extraordinary Leaders (ExCEL) program offers numerous leadership presentations related to developing individual’s skills and self-awareness, while supporting student organizations’ growth and success as a whole. Presenters include YCP faculty, staff, alumni, and students, as well as prestigious professionals on the local and national levels.
Students are encouraged to participate in these sessions regardless of class year and current involvement in a student organization, as these leadership skills are transferable to all aspects of the College experience and will serve students in a wide range of opportunities.
Student Leadership and Professional Development Programs are designed for individual students as well as student organizations striving for excellence. Each semester, ExCEL sessions are tailored around the needs of students to encourage personal and professional development. While executive board members of campus clubs and organizations are required to attend at least one ExCEL session per semester, all students are encouraged to take advantage of the developmental opportunities that Student Leadership and Professional Development Programs offer.
The Organizational Leadership Grant Program and the Individual Student Leadership Certification Program awards organizations and individuals who display an exceptional dedication to developing their leadership skills by offering grants to those who go above and beyond in attending Student Leadership and Professional Development Programs.
