ExCEL Leadership Series

ExCEL stands for Excellence in Creating Extraordinary Leaders. The mission of the ExCEL Leadership Program is to develop and enhance the leadership skills of YCP students through quality leadership workshops and presentations. Through this leadership series we hope to foster a community of responsible and dedicated student leaders that will increase the overall quality of involvement and engagement of the YCP student population as a whole. ExCEL Series events are open to all students and focuses presentations and workshops on organizational leadership skills that students can apply in their current roles.

ExCEL Leadership Series

What is ExCEL?

Centered around the mantra of “Excellence,” the Office of Student Activities and Orientation (OSAO), the Career Development Center (CDC), and the Center for Professional Excellence (CPE) collaborate to provide numerous programs focused on developing students as well-rounded leaders and professionals. The Excellence in Creating Extraordinary Leaders (ExCEL) Leadership Series offers numerous leadership presentations related to developing individual’s skills and self-awareness, while supporting student organizations’ growth and success as a whole. Presenters include YCP faculty, staff, alumni, and students, as well as prestigious professionals on the local and national levels.

Who should attend?

Students are encouraged to participate in these sessions regardless of class year and current involvement in a student organization, as these leadership skills are transferable to all aspects of the College experience and will serve students in a wide range of opportunities.

ExCEL Series presentations are designed for individual students as well as student organizations striving for excellence. Each semester, ExCEL sessions are tailored around the needs of students to encourage personal and professional development. While executive board members of campus clubs and organizations are required to attend at least one ExCEL session per semester, all students are encouraged to take advantage of the developmental opportunities that Student Leadership and Professional Development Programs offer.

The Organizational Leadership Grant Program and the Individual Student Leadership Certification Program awards organizations and individuals who display an exceptional dedication to developing their leadership skills by offering grants to those who go above and beyond in attending Student Leadership and Professional Development Programs.

The Organizational Leadership Grant Program awards the top three Student Senate recognized organizations that have the most members attend ExCEL events each semester will receive a monetary award that can be used towards leadership programming! Grant awards: 1st place - $500, 2nd place - $250, 3rd place - $100

Individuation Leadership Certification awards individual students who display an exceptional dedication to developing their leadership skills will be rewarded for their commitment. All students who have attended a minimum of eight ExCEL sessions by the end of the 2015-16 academic year will receive a Student Leadership Certification. Additionally, the individual who attends the highest number of sessions (at least eight) during the 2015-16 academic year will also be awarded with $500 toward books and professional supplies at the York College of Pennsylvania Bookstore.
