Alpha Sigma Tau was founded nationally on November 4, 1899, at Michigan State Normal College in Ypsilanti, Mich., with the purpose of promoting the ethical, cultural and social development of members. We live by our open motto, “Active, Self-Reliant and Trustworthy,” and continue to promote the ideals through our actions. You can recognize us by our emerald green and gold colors, the anchor as our symbol, the pearl as our jewel and our flower the yellow rose. The Gamma Iota Chapter of Alpha Sigma Tau made its debut on York College’s campus on March 10, 1989, claiming the turtle as our local mascot. We devote our time to academics, philanthropy, friendship and sisterhood.
