Residence Life Room Selection

Returning Students - Each year room selection for returning students is held during the Spring semester for the following academic year. Students will use the ApplyOnline and MyHousing applications through the MyHousing program. All applications will be filled out online. Room selection includes applying for commuter status, off-campus status and and on-campus housing.

New Students will use the same programs to complete their housing contract and preferences, however they will be assigned during the summer months.  The roommate preferencing period is typically middle of April to May 1st.  This is for students that have completed a housing deport and contract. New students will not participate in the room selection process held during the Spring semester. Communication will be sent to students through their email provided on the Admissions application, until they are assigned a York College email (typically by June 15th).

York College has a four-year residency requirement. Students of traditional college age (including transfers and readmits) are required to live in YCP residence facilities or to commute from the home of parent/guardian until they have received authorization to reside off-campus.

 Deposits

  • The Business Office will begin accepting tuition and housing deposits for the Fall 2013 semester starting February 11.
  • Students can pay their deposits several ways. The deposits can be paid online, through the mail or at the business office window.
    • Online - Online, you will be able to pay your tuition and housing deposits.
    • Mail – A letter outlining the deposit process is sent to the home addresses of students. Students can use the tear off form and return it to the Business Office with either a check or the credit card section filled out.
    • Walk-up– Students may also go to the Business Office to pay their deposits.
      • Forms of payment – The Business Office accepts cash, check and credit card (MasterCard, Visa and Discover)
    • The Housing Deposit deadline for priority housing registration is March 15, 2013.
    • All students currently living on-campus that have not applied for graduation will receive a Housing Contract (HC) on February 18, 2013.
    • The HC hold will be removed once the housing deposit and contract have been submitted. We have allowed ample time to remove any holds effecting fall class registration, if the deposit is paid and the online contract is completed by the March 15, 2013 deadline.
    • We will remove HC holds from students graduating May 2013 once a finalized list has been established. The deadline for May graduates to submit an application is February 5. The holds are typically reviewed during the Winter Break period.
    • The Housing Contract hold makes students ineligible for class registration (including summer), so it is important to take care of this early to avoid any delays in scheduling classes and housing.
    • In addition, students submitting housing deposits and contracts after deadline of March 15, 2013, may be placed in a separate room selection lottery. This means that they may not be able to participate in room selection with students that met the March 15, 2013 deadline.
    • Students that are required to live on-campus, but do not submit the necessary deposits and information by the deadlines, will be placed on a wait list and assigned on-campus housing by Residence Life during the summer.
    • Students that do not choose a room through the room selection process will also be assigned during the summer as space permits.
    • Residential Students – Pay a $200 deposit. $100 is applied towards tuition and the other $100 is used as a damage deposit and refunded at the end of the academic year less any damages.
    • Any deposit submitted in an amount under the $200 will be applied towards a tuition deposit.
    • Housing Contract – All residential students are required to complete a housing contract. As mentioned above this is all completed online. As Residence Life is notified that your tuition and housing deposits have been paid, you will be able to access the applyonline housing contract. This typically takes 24 business hours.
    • Student will receive reminders periodically via their YCP email regarding completing the housing contract through the new housing software.
