Residence Life Room Selection

Returning Students - Room selection for returning students is held during the Spring semester for the following academic year. Students will use the online applications through the MyHousing program. All applications will be completed online only. Room selection includes applying for commuter status, off-campus status and on-campus housing.

New Students - New and transfer students will use the same program to complete their housing contract and preferences, however they will be assigned by the Residence Life Office during the summer months.  The roommate preferencing period is typically the middle of April through the beginning of May for students that have completed a housing deposit and contract. New students will not participate in the room selection process held during the Spring semester. Communication will be sent to students through the email they provided on the Admission application, until they are assigned a York College email (typically by June 15th).

York College of Pennsylvania is a residential college. As such, all first-year students, sophomores, juniors, and seniors are required to live on campus, unless they are enrolled as a commuting student. This includes transfer and readmitted students. Commuters are those students who reside from the home of their parent/guardian within a 25-mile radius of the campus and reside at their legal residence. Please note that students currently living on campus that wish to request commuter status must do so during the request period which happens during the Spring semester for the following academic year.

Contracts are for the full academic year, including for thosse students that become part-time during the spring semester. A full copy of hte housing policy and of the residence requirement may be found online. Students who do not qualify for commuter status are required to reside on campus, inclduing those that are eligible to be full-time, but elect to be part-time.

Any student interested in living off campus or commuting from the home of parent/guardian for future years, must apply and attain written authorization through the off-campus/commuting application process.

  • You will need to pay your tuition and housing deposits ($200). The deposit can be paid online through YCPWeb, via mail by sending a check to the BUsiness Office, or in person at the Business Office located in the Miller Administration Building. The deadline for housing deposits to participate in priority housing registration is March 13, 2015.
  • You will then need to complete the online housing contract also by March 13, 2015 in order to participate in priority housing registration. Your tuition and housing deposits must be paid before you would have access to the housing contract in MyHousing.
  • Room selection is anticipated to be held in April 2015. Students are randomly assigned lottery numbers based on created credit groups prior to room selection. Credits are based on credits earned by the end of the Fall 2014 semester. These groups will be 120+; 110-120; 100-110; 95-99.5; 90-94.5; 85-89.5 and so forth. You will select a room based on the person in your group that has the best number.
  • As Residence Life is notified that your tuition and housing deposits have been paid, further information will be sent to you. This includes information on how to choose your room, what if you want to stay in your same space, how the lottery process will work, etc…
  • All students currently living on-campus will receive a Housing Contract (HC) hold on February 23, 2015 if the tuition/housing deposit and contract are not completed. This hold will prevent you from scheduling or adjusting classes.
  • Students with current financial balances are not eligible to participate in room selection unless approved by the Business Office.
  • It is important to take care of these items early, so that there is no delay in removing a hold or in the timing of class registration.
  • Any questions should be directed to residencelife@ycp.edu.

 Deposits

  • The Business Office will begin accepting tuition and housing deposits for the Fall 2015 semester starting February 2, 2015.
  • Students can pay their deposits online through YCPWeb, via mail by sending a check to the Business Office, or in person with the Business Office located in the Miller Administration Building. If paying online or in person, the Business Office accepts cash, check, and credit card (MasterCard, Visa, and Discover).
  • The Housing Deposit deadline for priority housing registration is March 13, 2015.
  • All students currently living on-campus will receive a Housing Contract (HC) hold on February 23, 2015 if the tuition/housing deposit and contract are not completed. This hold will prevent you from scheduling or adjusting classes for Summer and Fall.
    • This HC hold will be removed once the housing deposit and contract have been submitted. We have allowed ample time to remove any holds effecting Fall class registration, if the deposit is paid and the online contract is completed by the March 13, 2015 deadline.
    • We will remove HC holds from students graduating in May 2015 once a finalized list of graduates has been established. The deadline for May graduates to submit an application is February 7, 2015. The holds are typically reviewed during the Winter Break period.
    • In addition, students submitting housing deposits and contracts after the deadline of March 13, 2015, may be placed in a separate room selection lottery. This means that they may not be able to participate in room selection with students that met the March 13, 2015 deadline.
    • Students that are required to live on-campus, but do not submit the necessary deposits and information by the deadlines, will be placed on a wait list and assigned on-campus housing by the Residence Life Office by the first week of August.
    • Students that do not choose a room through the room selection process will also be assigned during the summer.
    • Any deposit submitted in an amount under the $200 will be applied towards a tuition deposit first.
  • As Residence Life is notified that your tuition and housing deposits have been paid, further information will be sent to you within 24 business hours. This includes information on how to choose your room, what if you want to stay in your same space, how the lottery process will work, etc…
  • Student will receive reminders periodically via their YCP email regarding completing the housing contract.
  • Students with current financial balances are not eligible to participate in room selection unless approved by the Business Office.

Current On-campus Students Looking to Move Off-campus

  • In order to have access to the request form to live off campus, you must submit your tuition and housing deposits, complete the on-campus housing contract, and have earned at least 70 credits as of December 2014. Students with less than 70 credits are not eligible to apply. Should we need additional applications, we will re-open the process at that time.
  • Off-campus applications are available online only from February 6, 2015 through February 27, 2015, 5 p.m.
  • Late applications will not be accepted regardless of credits.
  • Applications will be reviewed based on being complete, which includes a licensed property, correct address, and (new for Fall 2015) completing the online course regarding living off-campus, along with submitting your on-campus housing deposit and contract. The process is based on credits. These credits are based on those completed by the end of the Fall 2014 semester. Please note that additional information will be provided during the Spring 2014 semester as we are continually reviewing this process.
  • Students will receive a lottery number that will be used for the off-campus review as well as on-campus housing. The lottery numbers are random, but are assigned based on credit grouping: 120+; 110+; 100+; 95-99.5; 90-94.5 85-89.5; 80-84.5; 75-79.5; 70-74.5. The date and time of the application is not used as a measure of criteria.
  • If you are given permission to live off-campus, your deposit will be credited to your student account.
  • Not all students that apply will receive permission to live off-campus. Therefore, students are discouraged from signing leases or purchasing properties until they have been granted permission in writing from the Residence Life Office to reside off-campus. Please note that having a contractual obligation for another living arrangement will not be honored as a valid reason for release from the residency requirement. The College strictly enforces its residency policies.
  • Off-campus approval or denial will be emailed to you through YCP email on or before April 15, 2015.
  • Any questions should be directed to residencelife@ycp.edu.
